Oslo Police have confirmed they are "in control" of a stolen ambulance, and that they fired shots to stop an armed man who was driving it. A police tweet says the suspect has not been seriously hurt. Police have set up a security cordon around the area of the incident.
"An armed man stole an ambulance, drove away and hit some people. We got him now", a police spokesman told Reuters.
The police haven't provided any details on the number of people hit by the vehicle.
There is no information about whether the incident is being handled as a deliberate attack.
A second suspect has been detained near the area of the incident, NRK News reported, citing law enforcement sources. Police helicopters have reportedly been flying over St. Hanshaugen and Grünerløkka. According to unconfirmed reports, two children were injured when the ambulance rammed into the crowd.
Several shots were heard on a video from the area that has been posted online.
