Pakistan's Foreign Ministry Summons Indian Envoy Over Cross-Border Artillery Fire

Pakistan's Foreign Ministry has summoned an Indian envoy over a ceasefire violation at the Line of Control that resulted in the death of three civilians in Neelum Valley.

"The deliberate targeting of civilian populated areas is indeed deplorable and contrary to human dignity, International Human Rights and Humanitarian Laws. The ceasefire violations by India are a threat to regional peace and security and may lead to a strategic miscalculation," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The spokesperson for Pakistan's Foreign Office Mohammad Faisal has called on New Delhi to abide by the ceasefire arrangement and maintain peace at the Line of Control. He also urged the Indian side to allow the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan to play its mandated role as per UN Security Council Resolutions.

India and Pakistan have been engaged in recent skirmishes along the LOC, with both sides blaming each other for ceasefire violations.

The boundary in question, known as the Line of Control, is a borderline between the Indian-controlled and Pakistan-controlled portions of Kashmir.

The Kashmir issue dates back to 1947 when both states gained independence from British rule, and both India and Pakistan claimed the entirety of the former princely state of Kashmir.
