Eel Offers Up Electrifying Christmas Decorations at US Aquarium

Miguel Wattson, an eel living it up at the Tennessee Aquarium, has given quite the shock to visitors discovering his ability to power the lights on a nearby Christmas tree at the site.

Joey Turnipseed, the aquarium’s audiovisual production specialist, explained in a December 3 release that Wattson is able to trigger a strobe-like tree lighting every time he’s eating or just whenever he gets excited.

“Whenever Miguel discharges electricity, sensors in the water deliver the charge to a set of speakers,” Turnipseed said. “The speakers convert the discharge into the sound you hear and the festively flashing lights.”

Forget Rudolf: it’s all about Miguel.
