According to police, cited by The India Today media outlet, a raped and charred corpse of a young woman was found on 28 November on the roadside of the Hyderabad-Bengaluru highway.

The woman was later identified as a local veterinarian doctor. The brutal killing sparked protests in the local community, which demanded justice for the slain victim.

Local investigators said that the group of four male suspects punctured the rear wheel of the doctor's scooter. The rapists then offered her assistance with repairing the tire before dragging her to a secluded spot near a toll plaza where they sexually assaulted, mutilated and then murdered her.

The Cyberabad Police Department earlier identified the rapist/murderers as Mohammad Areef, Jollu Shiva, Jollu Naveen, and Chintakunta Chennakeshavulu. Areef, 25, is reported to have been the instigator of the brutal crime.
