On Monday, the House Judiciary Committee was holding a hearing on the evidence for impeachment provided in the House Intelligence Committee hearings. The House Intelligence and Judiciary Committees were set to hear presentations on the next steps in the impeachment process.
The impeachment inquiry was launched by House Democrats in September after a whistleblower complaint alleged that Trump abused his power and pressured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a July 25 phone call to investigate the possible corruption of his political rival, Joe Biden, and his son, Hunter, who sat on the board of a local energy company, Burisma.
In addition, Democrats believe that Rudy Giuliani, Trump's lawyer, could have played an important role in the situation. Witnesses to the impeachment proceedings claimed that Trump also had concerns over alleged Ukrainian meddling in the 2016 US presidential election in favour of the Democrats.
Meanwhile, Paul Gosar, Republican Congressman from Arizona, said that "there is a complete lack of evidence to support impeachment."
"The Democrat lawyers seem to think hearsay testimony is actual evidence. It’s not," Gosar said.
"The whole impeachment hearing is a comic political exercise by Democrats filled with rage, angst and fake evidence. What has been uncovered is this: Democrat activist lawyer Daniel Goldman admitted that the Obama White House adopted a policy of stopping corruption investigations in Ukraine that pertained to Hunter Biden and Bursima. Attorney General now has more to investigate," the Congressman added.
