Lebanese authorities have received a warrant issued by Interpol to arrest former Nissan head Carlos Ghosn, Reuters reported citing a Lebanese judicial source.

The source stated that the warrant, overseen by the Lebanese internal security forces, has not been referred to the judiciary yet.

According to the source, the authorities have not made any decisions regarding the warrant yet.

However, despite the emerging reports, Carlos Ghosn's name is not searchable on the Interpol website in the Red Notices section, in which people wanted by the organisation are listed.

"Total number of public Red Notices in circulation: 7186. There are no results for your search. Please select different criteria", the site shows when Carlos Ghosn's name is typed in.

Carlos Ghosn, a Brazilian-born French billionaire of Lebanese ancestry, was arrested in 2018 in Japan over accusation of false accounting during his chairmanship over the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance.

Earlier this week, the official breached his bail conditions and fled Japan, escaping to Lebanon. Ghosn told the media that he had fled injustice and political persecution in Japan.

Meanwhile, Turkish authorities have made seven arrests after launching a probe into Ghosn's escape, which was reportedly made via Istanbul.

French Secretary of State for Economy and Finance Agnès Pannier-Runacher, for her part, said that Paris does not intend to extradite Ghosn should he arrive in France because the country "never extradites its nationals".
