Magnitude 6.6 Quake Strikes Near Puerto Rico – USGS

The day before, a 5.8 magnitude earthquake occurred off the southern coast of Puerto Rico with the epicentre being located 21 kilometres (13 miles) south of the municipality of Guayanilla, at the depth of 12.9 kilometres.

The Caribbean island nation of Puerto Rico was struck by a 6.6 magnitude earthquake this morning, US Geological Survey said Tuesday.

The epicentre was located 5 kilometres south-west of Tallaboa and at a depth of 10 kilometres, according to the report.

There have been no immediate reports about casualties caused by the earthquake. However, a tsunami alert was issued for Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.

Puerto Rico's Electric Power Authority has also reported an island-wide power outage.
