IDF Launches Multiple Retaliatory Strikes on Gaza Strip

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed via social media that its forces conducted several strikes against Hamas targets in the southern Gaza Strip late Wednesday evening.

In a translated statement, the IDF clarified that the attacks, carried out by "IDF aircraft and fighter jets," came about as a "response to the rocket fire and the explosion of bombs from the Gaza Strip toward Israeli territory" earlier Wednesday. 

"The Hamas terror organization is responsible for what is happening in and out of the Gaza Strip and it will have consequences for actions against Israeli citizens," added the IDF's official Twitter account. 

The Israeli military force noted that targets included "weapons and underground infrastructure" belonging to Hamas. 

Khan Yunis, a city in the southern Gaza Strip, was targeted by an Israeli airstrike, according to Iranian international news network Press TV.

Sputnik reported that air raid sirens sounded in southern Israel earlier Wednesday in response to the launch of a projectile from the Gaza Strip. 

Anna Ahronheim, a correspondent for the Jerusalem Post, later revealed via Twitter that the IDF had located a "mortar" in an open field in southern Israel. The military force alleged that both a "rocket & explosive balloons" entered Israel from Gaza on Wednesday.
