4.9-Magnitude Earthquake Registered Near Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula - Seismologists

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKIY (Sputnik) - A 4.9-magnitude earthquake was registered on Tuesday near the eastern coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula in the Russian Far East, a spokesperson for the regional branch of the Geophysical Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences stated.

The earthquake occurred in Kronotsky Bay.

"The epicentre of the 4.9-magnitude earthquake was located at a depth of 18 kilometres [11.18 miles], 169 kilometres to the southeast of the village of Milkovo in the Kamchatka Territory's Milkovo region", the spokesperson said.

 

Local residents did not feel the earthquake, according to the regional department of the Russian Emergencies Ministry.

There is no reported information on casualties at this point, and no tsunami warning has been issued by authorities.
