The Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned the Pakistani envoy over alleged misconduct towards the Afghan ambassador by Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) personnel.

According to the ministry's statement, Kabul has called on Islamabad to fulfil its obligations under international diplomatic conventions.

In a separate development, Pakistan said it had to close the consulate section of its embassy in Kabul amid security concerns. Afghanistan reacted to this announcement by saying that it will investigate the claim and ensure the safety of Pakistani diplomats in the country.

The ISI is Pakistan's top intelligence agency, dealing with gathering and processing security information from around the globe. One of its major tasks is to provide intelligence for the government. During the Afghan Civil War in the 1990s, the ISI provided intelligence to the Taliban.

Earlier in the day, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said at a public gathering in Nangarhar province that the Taliban should say when they are going to cut ties with Pakistan.

"If Taliban have set release of their prisoners as a condition for intra-Afghan talks, we also have conditions; they [Taliban] should tell me when are they going to leave [break ties with] Pakistan," Ghani said as quoted by Anadolu Agency.

This comes days after the Taliban signed a historic deal with the United States. The deal calls for the gradual withdrawal of all US troops from Afghanistan. It is also expected to bring direct talks between the Taliban and the Afghan government closer.
