Copa America Football Tournament Postponed Due to Coronavirus

The development comes just on the heels of the UEFA's announcement that the Euro 2020 tournament will be postponed until 2021 over COVID-19 concerns.

The Copa America, a major men's football tournament in Latin America, has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The 47th edition of the competition was slated to take place in Colombia and Argentina from 12 June to 12 July 2020. According to the South American Football Confederation, known as CONMEBOL, the event will be rescheduled for 2021.

Similarly, earlier in the day the UEFA decided to postpone the Euro 2020 tournament until next year.

Many sporting events have been cancelled as the World Health Organisation declared the COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic.

According to worldometer.info, so far 188,396 people have contracted the virus globally, while the death toll from the disease accounts for 7,499 as of 13:47 GMT.
