Van Gogh Painting Stolen From Museum in Netherlands

This is not the first time criminals have targeted paintings by the Dutch post-impressionist: back in 2002 two of his artworks were stolen from the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, only to be retrieved more than 14 years later.

According to ANP, the incident occurred at the Singer Laren museum (which is closed due to the coronavirus outbreak at the moment) last night. Police are currently investigating the break-in, while the museum has scheduled a press conference for Monday afternoon to address the heist.

"There was a break-in last night and a painting by Van Gogh was stolen", general director Evert van Os confirmed.

According to a statement from the museum, the work of the artist, stolen by the criminals, is "Parish garden in Nuenen, Spring" ("Lentetuin, de pastorietuin te Nuenen in het voorjaar"), which was on loan from the Groninger Museum. However, there are no additional details on the issue. It is also unclear if other paintings are missing from the facility.

The value of the painting also remains unknown, but earlier this year another masterpiece of the artist was sold at TEFAF Maastricht for 15 million euros.
