German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that it will become clear only in 14 days if easing the lockdown in the country has sent infection rates higher.
She added that loosening the lockdown too fast could lead to a second wave of infections.
Germany is taking further measures to help the economy, including assistance to restaurants and the extension of a short-time work schedule, Merkel said.
As of 20 April, the coronavirus death toll in Germany was reported at 4,294, while the total number of infections was confirmed at 139,897, the WHO said.
