Three Civilians Injured in 'Accidental' Shell Blast at Old Army Firing Range in Kashmir

New Delhi (Sputnik): The picturesque Tosa Maidan in Jammu and Kashmir was used by the Indian Army as an artillery range for almost seven decades. The lush meadows were thrown open for locals and tourists in 2018 after the army decided to relocate the 1,809-hectare firing range elsewhere.

An accidental blast from an old shell has injured three people at the Tosa Maidan, an old Indian Army artillery range in Kashmir’s Budgam district.

“Three persons are reported to be injured, who are being shifted to hospital”, a senior police officer confirmed.

Local media reports said one of the injured is in critical condition.

In a similar incident on 3 May, at least five people including two kids were injured when a shell exploded in a drainage area.

The explosions are among a string of incidents that occur in Kashmir due to uncleared explosives at encounter sites and army camps.
