An unauthorised prayer gathering is expected outside Al-Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem on 29 May amid calls for worshippers to come together and pray in protest over the delay in the reopening of the holy site.

The mosque has been closed since March amid the spread of coronavirus for the first time in more than 50 years and was initially expected to reopen its door after Eid al-Fitr - the day marking the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

The reopening, however, was postponed until 31 May.
