Two rockets landed by the Baghdad Airport near US troop stations early on Tuesday morning local time, according to reports.

Some reports suggest that the rockets landed near the Baghdad Diplomatic Support Center, which hosts US coalition personnel.

There are no reports of any casualties, although there are some reports of US Air Force activity over Baghdad following the reported rocket landings.

Rocket attacks also frequently target the US embassy in Baghdad, located inside the fortified “Green Zone.” Tensions in the region have been high since the death of Iranian Major General Qasem Soleimani in a January 3 US-led airstrike in Baghdad.

The US has repeatedly justified Soleimani’s assasination by claiming that he was behind the rocket strike on an Iraqi base near Kirkuk on December 27, 2019, that killed an American contractor and left several military personnel injured.

Iraq’s Joint Operations Command (JOC) said Sunday that it had captured a flatbed truck in northern Baghdad; the vehicle had been turned into a Katyusha rocket launcher.
