5.8 Magnitude Quake Hits Central California, USGS Says

In July 2019, a 7.1 magnitude earthquake that hit southern California caused damage to several houses, while about 2,000 people lost power.

A 5.8 magnitude earthquake hit central California on 24 June, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The quake was recorded at 17:40 GMT, according to the USGS. The epicentre was located 19.3 kilometres (12 miles) south of the city of Olancha, CA, at a depth of 2.9 kilometres.

There are no reports of injuries or damages as a result of the earthquake.

Prior to this, a 5.3 magnitude quake struck central California without causing any damage.

On 6 July 2019, a magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck California, followed by some 3,000 aftershocks.
