Colombian Military Helicopter Carrying 17 Crashes, Killing Nine Soldiers - Army

A Blackhawk helicopter of Colombian forces was reportedly carrying 17 military personnel when it went down over Mitu, the capital city of the department of Vaupes in Colombia.

Six people sustained injuries and another eleven went missing in Colombia after a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter belonging to the country's military crashed, Reuters reported, citing a local official. 

On Tuesday evening, Colombian military officials confirmed that nine soldiers had been killed in the crash, according to Reuters. The report did not mention how many remain injuring or missing.

"From 3:00 a.m. Today, The Army Air Assault Aviation Division has no communication with the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter, registration EJC 2176, which was in operational support in the general area of Mitu, Vaupes - the National Army reports at this time", Colombian journalist Manuel García Riaño reported on Twitter.

​According to the journalist, citing the army, the helicopter's crew was made up of a pilot-in-command, a senior degree; the pilot, a captain degree; the crew chief, a sergeant vice-first grade; the flight crewman, a second sergeant degree, and two non-commissioned officers.
