Huawei Urges Germany to Keep Tech Giant as 5G Provider Despite US Pressure, Reports Say

Huawei's 5G rollout in Europe has been in doubt amid reports of the security risks that the Chinese tech firm's equipment allegedly poses - a claim promoted by the United States but vehemently denied by China.

Huawei's Germany representative David Wang is calling on the government not to exclude the company from the development of 5G networks, Der Spiegel reported on Friday.

"We have been in Germany for 15 years now, and none of our long-standing customers has found any evidence of misuse of our technologies. The United States has no evidence of this, either", Wang told Der Spiegel.

The exclusion of Huawei from the German market would primarily affect its customers and shareholders, because the providers would then no longer be free to choose the best products, Wang added.

"A ban would not increase the security of the networks, on the contrary. More competition also leads to better and safer products", he said.

'Unscrupulous Oppression': China Condemns US Threat of 'Consequences' for Brazil Over Picking Huawei
The United States has been calling on its European allies to bar Huawei from their 5G networks and has openly been threatening sanctions, such as reducing information exchange among intelligence agencies. Washington has accused Beijing of espionage with the help of Huawei gear.

The UK recently followed the US and began excluding the Chinese company from providing the cutting-edge technology.

China and Huawei has strongly denied accusations of espionage, calling the US pressure politically motivated and unjustified.
