On Saturday, a caravan of more than 600 vehicles of Donald Trump supporters entered the city. The processions, which started in Clackamas, a suburb of Portland, entered the city displaying US flags, Trump/Pence 2020 flags, and "thin blue line" banners, reached the city at around 6 pm.

Soon after they arrived, police reported clashes between participants of the pro-Trump rally and Antifa protestors, as the latter were struggling to block the procession.

The protests against police brutality have been hitting Portland for over three months, since the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis during a violent arrest. President Trump offered to send federal law enforcement personnel to the city in order to curb the demonstrations, slamming Mayor Ted Wheeler and promising to "stop the Anarchists, Agitators, Rioters and Looters".

The mayor rejected the aid and criticised the president for "politics of division and demagoguery". Later, a group of protestors has broken into the lobby of his apartment building and demanded Wheeler's resignation.
