Worshippers Gather in Tehran for Annual Ashura Rituals Amid Coronavirus Restrictions - Video

The event commemorates the death of Hussein ibn Ali, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad, who was killed in the battle of Karbala in the 7th century.

Iran remains one of the worst-hit nations in Asia both in the number of total coronavirus cases and fatalities (ranked 12th and 10th by the WHO respectively).

According to the latest data by the World Health Organisation, Iran has registered 369,911 cases and 21,249 fatalities since the outbreak of the disease.
