The night sky in New York City tonight is illuminated with light projections of the Twin Towers, commemorating the 19th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
The projections are formed by 88 searchlights that create two vertical columns representing the North and South towers of the World Trade Center that were destroyed in part by two passenger planes hijacked by Al-Qaeda terrorists on 11 September 2001.
The tribute is held annually on 11 September and the destruction has been labeled the single deadliest terrorist attack in human history, resulting in at least 2,977 deaths and over 25,000 injuries.
