Private Memorial Ceremony for Justice Ruth Ginsburg Held in US Capitol - Video

On Wednesday, Ginsburg's casket lay in repose under the Supreme Court's portico at the top of the front steps of the building, allowing members of the public to pay their respects.

Sputnik is live from outside of the US Capitol in Washington DC as Ruth Bader Ginsburg's casket is lying in state in the building, making the judge the first woman and the second justice to be accorded this honour in the US history.

A private ceremony is expected to be held in her honour in the building's Statuary Hall.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg died on Friday at her home in Washington DC due to complications from metastatic pancreatic cancer. She was 87 years old.
