Colonel Turki Al-Maliki, a spokesman for Saudi-led coalition, on Sunday claimed that coalition forces had intercepted and destroyed an explosive drone launched toward Saudi Arabia by the armed Houthi political opposition faction, according to Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

According to Al-Maliki, the drone was allegedly launched deliberately, to target civilians.

The Saudi-led coalition has reported such attacks frequently in recent months, with the latest incident said to have taken place on Saturday, after the coalition claimed to have intercepted an explosive drone.

Earlier in the month, the Saudis claimed that they had destroyed a Houthi 'bomb boat' in the waters of the Red Sea, in the vicinity of the Salif port.

Attacks continue, as Yemen continues to be engulfed in a military conflict between government forces led by the nation's president-in-exile, Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi, and the armed Houthi political opposition faction. Since 2015, the Saudi-led coalition has carried out continuing military operations against the Houthis at the request of the Yemeni president, who is residing in Riyadh.
