Brigitte Macron, the wife of the French president, is staying in isolation for a week after coming into contact with someone who is COVID-positive, her office told AFP.
According to the statement, Mme Macron is not exhibiting any symptoms of the disease so far.
The first lady will miss scheduled events including the national tribute ceremony to Samuel Paty, the history teacher who was beheaded on Friday by a teenager of Chechen origin. She will also take all the required precautions.
Like many other nations, especially in Europe, France is in the throes of a second wave that has outpaced the initial outbreak in spring. Transmission cases have dwarfed those seen in spring, although COVID-19 deaths have become less frequent.
