The shooting that reportedly left at least 11 people dead took place on a lookout point west of Baghdad. According to the reports, the Daesh* terrorist group was behind the attack.

The attack also left eight people wounded, according to AFP citing medical sources.

"IS attacked the monitoring tower, killing five members of the tribal Hashed and six local people who had come to help repel the attack," a security source told AFP.

According to AFP, the attackers threw grenades at tribal Hashed forces that were stationed at Al-Radwaniyah near the Baghdad airport.

In 2017, the Iraqi government declared victory over Daesh after a three-year battle against the group, while pockets of militants remain in some areas of the country.
