Kamala Harris' aunt Dr Sarala Gopalan, a native of India's Chennai, has lauded the Democrat on her potential election victory, saying she has made history by possibly becoming the first woman and first Indian-American VP.
Dr Gopalan, who saw Kamala grow up, recalls that since her childhood she's always been good at whatever she did.
"I'm a doctor and I used to work in Chandigarh. Kamala has visited us a number times in Chandigarh and other places. We have always seen her (Kamala Harris) grow up as a good child. She was very good at whatever she did and she has achieved what she wanted to do", Sarala told Indian news agency ANI.
Dr Gopalan is the Chennai-based younger sister of Kamala's late mother Shyamala Gopalan, who was born in Chennai before she moved to the US for further studies and went on to become a leading cancer researcher and activist.
Before Kamala, 56, Hillary Clinton had attempted to break the gender barrier by running for US president four years ago, but fell just short of her goal.
Joe Biden, widely tipped to be the next US president, has secured 290 Electoral College votes (over 74 million in the popular vote), well over the threshold of 270 needed to claim victory. But Trump has not acknowledged his defeat and filed lawsuits to press claims of election fraud.
