China Launches Chang'e-5 Spaceship to the Moon From Hainan

The launch of Chang'e-5 mission has been rescheduled several times. The mission failed to take off in 2017 and was rescheduled to take place in 2018, but was again postponed to July 2019, and then to late 2019 - only to be postponed once again.

Sputnik is live from the Wenchang Satellite Launch Centre in Hainan, China as the Chang'e-5 spaceship is expected to be launched to the moon. Chang'e 5 is planned to gather samples of the moon's soil and bring them back to Earth.

The mission will be launched by a Long March 5 heavy-lift carrier. According to the CASC, the rocket was delivered by sea to Wenchang in late September, after which specialists performed a series of preparations and necessary tests.

The launch vehicle was delivered to the space port's launch pad last week.
