Magnitude 5.7 Earthquake Strikes Off Irian Jaya, Indonesia, GFZ Reports

According to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the quake was registered at a depth of 10 kilometres. In September 2019, Indonesia was struck by a deadly earthquake that left at least 20 people dead.

The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported on Wednesday (GMT+7) that a 5.7-magnitude earthquake had hit the Indonesian province of Irian Jaya.

There have not been any reports about victims or damages caused by the quake so far.

Indonesia is frequently hit by earthquakes due to the region's seismic activity. In September 2019, a 6.5-magnitude earthquake shook the country’s province of Maluku, causing heavy casualties.
