On Tuesday, US-based e-commerce giant Amazon confirmed that it's ready to begin manufacturing its FireStick devices in India.
Used by over 40 million people worldwide, the media streaming device enables users to access content on OTT platforms, install apps, and play music and games on a TV.
Ravi Shankar Prasad, India’s federal minister for information technology, took to Twitter’s India–made rival Koo app to confirm the development.
Amazon started ramping up business in India last year after soon-to-retire chief Jeff Bezos visited the country and invested $1 billion in a bid to help digitise small and medium businesses there.
Along with Tesla, Amazon has followed other western big tech giants like Apple and Google by increasing investments in India.
