One student was injured after a man opened fire at Watson Chapel Junior High School in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, KLRT-TV reported on Monday.
The broadcaster cited Pine Bluff Police as saying that the schoolkid injured in the shooting is currently in serious condition.
The officers have detained a male suspect, but have not disclosed any other details about him.
The shooting occurred on the first day the school returned to in-person learning.
According to the police, the campuses have been secured and officers are working at the scene.
