UK PM Johnson Addresses House of Commons Following Prince Philip’s Death

His Royal Highness, Duke of Edinburg died on 9 April aged 99. Following Buckingham Palace's announcement on the Prince’s death, Boris Johnson delivered an emotional tribute to the late prince consort, saying that he “earned the affection of generations” around the world.

Sputnik is live from London where UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is addressing the House of Commons in the wake of Prince Philip’s death. The country is in an eight-day period of national mourning.

MPs are expected to pay tribute to the late prince consort, who was married to Queen Elizabeth II for more than 70 years. The Scottish parliament and the Senedd (the Welsh parliament) will hold a special session to commemorate the Duke of Edinburgh. 

Prince Philip passed away on 9 April, just two months before his 100th birthday. A low-key funeral will be held on 17 April.
