George Floyd Death: Former Police Officer Derek Chauvin’s Trial Continues in Minneapolis

The trial of the former police officer has been ongoing since March; Chauvin is charged with second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and manslaughter in the case of George Floyd, a black man who died while in custody.

Sputnik comes live from the Hennepin County Courthouse in Minneapolis on Tuesday, April 13 where Chauvin's trail resumes. The defence will now start making its case after more than two weeks of testimony.

Chauvin was arrested in May 2020 after he knelt on the neck of Floyd for over eight minutes during his arrest, leading to the man’s death. The incident triggered a wave of racially-charged protests in the US.
