Unrest Hits West Bank as Israeli Forces Arrest Hamas Cell Leader

TEL AVIV (Sputnik) - An Israeli operation to arrest a man on suspicion of terrorism has triggered unrest in the West Bank, prompting officers to use live ammunition to disperse the crowd, according to the Israeli police.

"Border guards of the Israeli police and the Defense Army forces arrested a wanted man in Tulkarm [city] tonight [on Sunday night]. In the area of the operation in Tulkarm, serious unrest broke out, stones and Molotov cocktails were thrown at Israeli security forces. In response, the army used live ammunition and means to disperse the crowd", the border police said.

The suspect, 50, was arrested and sent for questioning.

Israeli media reported that the suspect was the leader of a local Hamas cell.
