Palestinians Commemorate ‘Nakba Day’ in Israel

The situation on the Israeli-Gaza border has significantly worsened over the past days. Since the start of the confrontation, as of Saturday morning, more than 2,200 rockets have been launched from Gaza into Israeli territory, and the Israeli Defence Force have retaliated with hundreds of strikes on Hamas targets in the enclave.

Palestinians are commemorating ‘Nakba Day’, protesting in Nazareth and East Jerusalem's Sheikh Jarrah.

Around 700,000 Palestinian Arabs fled or were expelled from their homes during the 1947-1949 Palestine war, the first war of the Israeli-Palestinian and the Arab-Israeli conflict. The British Empire gave up its mandate of Palestine during this war. The events of 1948 are commemorated by Palestinians on 15 May, a date known by Palestinians as Nakba Day.
