French Police Hold Protest Near National Assembly in Paris After Officer Murdered

Police unions called the mass event after Brigadier Eric Masson, a 36-year-old officer, was shot dead during an anti-drug operation in Avignon on 5 May.

They are demanding the introduction of a minimum sentence for those who assault officers, amid a rising tide of violence against law enforcement personnel.

French Prime Minister Jean Castex previously addressed the issue, promising harsher penalties for those who attack officers.
