UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson married his fiancée Carrie Symonds in a secret ceremony at Westminster Cathedral on Saturday, his office confirmed media reports on Sunday.

"The Prime Minister and Ms Symonds were married yesterday afternoon in a small ceremony at Westminster Cathedral. The couple will celebrate their wedding with family and friends next summer," Johnson's office said.

The wedding was previously expected to take place on 30 July 2022.

British media earlier reported that the ceremony was attended by only 30 guests, including the couple’s son, Wilfred, born on 29 April 2020. The bride and groom walked down the aisle to classical music and kissed after the vows were pronounced.

According to eyewitnesses, the cathedral was closed during the ceremony, which lasted half an hour.

"They looked besotted," the Sun quoted one of the employees of the cathedral as saying.

The marriage is the third for the prime minister and the first for Carrie Symonds.
