Emergency Services Continue Searching for Survivors at Collapsed Condo in Miami

Champlain Towers South was completed in 1981. When it collapsed it was going through a recertification process for 40-year-old buildings, in accordance with city safety regulations, reports have suggested.

Sputnik is live from Miami Beach, Florida, where emergency services continue rescue operations after part of a 12-storey residential building collapsed in the Surfside area of the city. At least five people were reported dead, while 156 are still missing.

Following the catastrophe, US President Joe Biden approved Florida's emergency declaration and authorised a federal response to aid local efforts.
