US Secretary of State Blinken Holds Press Conference on Evacuations From Afghanistan

Western powers have been faced with a conundrum in the war-stricken country since the Taliban* retook power in Afghanistan on 15 August. The US and its allies are now racing against the clock to evacuate their troops, citizens, as well as Afghans who worked with them by 31 August.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is holding a press briefing on the US ongoing evacuation efforts in Afghanistan. The official is expected to update the media about the process and answer questions about US actions after the 31 August deadline.
The Taliban earlier issued a stern warning against delaying the withdrawal of US and NATO forces, cautioning of "consequences" of a violation of the agreement. Earlier this week, US allies said they would not be able to evacuate everyone by the end of August.
