Sputnik goes live from Kabul on Monday as the evacuation deadline agreed upon by the US and the Taliban* for 31 August looms large.
Under the deal, all foreigners seeking to leave Afghanistan should be evacuated, while all foreign troops must be withdrawn. The Taliban has refused to allow the US and its allies to extend the deadline for the airlift, calling it a "red line".
Earlier in the day, Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul came under rocket fire, which, according to US officials, was successfully repelled as the US military engaged its C-RAM missile defence system.
