The Rossiya Segodnya media group, which includes the Sputnik news agency, has said that Google News and Google Discover have restricted access to the group's resources online, dubbing the move a case of "censorship".

Rossiya Segodnya announced on Wednesday that Meta, the US tech company formerly known as Facebook, has disabled all its resources' apps.
Rossiya Segodnya considers this decision an act of "censorship", along with the move by Google News and Google Discover to restrict access to its resources online.
Google's move, announced by the media group earlier, was described by Rossiya Segodnya as "manipulation of the information agenda".
Meta's decision to disable the applications connected to the media outlets that are part of the Rossiya Segodnya group (the Sputnik news agency is among them) is in line with the wave of anti-Russian sanctions imposed by the West over Moscow's military operation in Ukraine. The latter was launched by the Kremlin with the goal of "demilitarising and de-Nazifying" the nation's neighbour.

Rossiya Segodnya Considers Google Discover, Google News Restrictions of Its Resources 'Censorship'
Earlier, Rossiya Segodnya's resources were reportedly blocked from Google Play Store in Europe as part of the EU sanctions on Russia. The YouTube channels of Russian state-run media outlets such as Sputnik and RT were blocked by Google.
The sanctions targeting Russian media outlets were condemned by Moscow as "hostile propaganda activities". The move by another US social media platform, Twitter, to label the accounts of Sputnik employees was slammed by the news agency as a "witch hunt" and "a direct persecution" of the agency's journalists.
