A Sputnik correspondent reported that explosions were heard in the Syrian capital.
The Syrian Defense Ministry said in a statement later that the air defense systems shot down most of the missiles fired from the direction of Tiberias. It said damage possibly caused by the attack is being assessed.
Footage allegedly showing the moment of the attack has been posted on social media.

Earlier this month, the Russian military reported that several Israeli fighter jets carried out a missile attack in the Syrian province of Latakia. The attacks were said to have caused minor damage to civilian infrastructure.
According to a statement by the Syrian Foreign Ministry, cited by SANA soon after the shelling, Israel's regular attacks on Syrian territory is a violation of international law, as well as the UN Charter.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic, Faisal Mikdad, in a message sent to UN Secretary General António Guterres, also stressed that "Syria retains the legitimate right to respond to Israeli missile attacks at the right time."
