In this episode of By Any Means Necessary, hosts Sean Blackmon and Jacquie Luqman are joined by Margaret Kimberley, editor and senior columnist at Black Agenda Report and author of the book "Prejudential: Black America and the Presidents" to discuss Victory Day celebrations in Russia commemorating the anniversary of the defeat of Nazi German forces in World War II by the Soviet Union and other allied forces, how Victory Day is being maligned by pro-NATO propagandists and how it relates to the current operation in Ukraine, and the Ukrainian government’s censorship of symbols related to the victory over Nazism and censorship of anything short of support for the current Ukrainian government.
In the second segment, Sean and Jacquie are joined by writer Indi Samarjiva to discuss the resignation of Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and the brutal vigilante repression of ongoing anti-government protesters by alleged pro-government protesters, why the resignation of Mahinda is a red herring in the struggle to remove the rule of President Gota Rajapaksa, the forty year history of neoliberalism that has impoverished Sri Lanka and the culpability of imperialist powers and the IMF in indebting Sri Lanka and destroying its economy, and what’s next for Sri Lanka as people demand the resignation of Gotabaya and elections.
In the third segment, Sean and Jacquie are joined by Abayomi Azikiwe, editor of the Pan-African News Wire to discuss the history of colonialism and imperialism waged by many of the countries that comprise NATO on the African continent, the repression of both domestic and international Black liberation activists and revolutionaries that the United States is responsible for, and the history of NATO powers like France in brutally repressing movements for liberation on the African continent, and how NATO’s war in Ukraine and efforts at a new Cold War are also aimed at keeping Africa in the US geopolitical sphere.
Later in the show, Sean and Jacquie are joined by Esther Iverem, artist, author, independent journalist, and host and producer of On The Ground: Voices of Resistance from the Nation’s Capital, which you can listen to both as a podcast and on Pacifica Radio to discuss May Day celebrations in Cuba and the impact of sanctions and other imperialist actions on the Cuban people, the hypocritical efforts by the US government to exclude Cuba and other nations from the upcoming Summit of the Americas on the basis of human rights violations as the war on abortion rights continues to be waged in the US, and the propaganda campaign about Ukraine that the Biden administration has seemingly set out on as it refuses to protect the right to abortion and combat other attacks on women at home.
