An updated statement from the Combat Center's social media account revealed that the lockdown alert had been cleared after officials determined that a firearm has been "inadvertently discharged."

"As of 1220 PM the MCAGCC Shelter In Place order has been lifted. The installation is secure and base personnel are free to resume activity," reads the center's tweeted update. "No injuries have been reported."

Officials further detailed that the incident remains under investigation.
The reports of shots fired came in at 8:52 a.m. local time and came in anonymously, the center earlier indicated.
The MCAGCC at Twentynine Palms is the largest US Marine Corps base, covering over 900 square miles and containing a population of over 8,400 people.
