Airspace Closure over St. Petersburg Was Part of Air Defense Drills, Russian MoD Clarifies

MOSCOW (Sputnik)- The closure of the airspace over Saint Petersburg was part of the drills of the air defense forces, Russian Defense Ministry has said.

Fighter jets took off to practice the detection and interception of a training target.
Earlier in the day, the government of St. Petersburg said that Pulkovo international airport temporarily does not accept aircraft. Later, city emergency services told Sputnik that the airspace was closed due to an unknown flying object.
