Vladimir Putin thanked SCO nations for supporting Russia during aborted mutiny and stressed that Moscow highly appreciates this. He added that Russian people unanimously slammed actions of Wagner head and that they are more united than ever.
On June 23, forces of the Wagner Group (PMC) seized the headquarters of Russia's Southern Military District in the city of Rostov-on-Don, following accusations leveled against the Russian Ministry of Defense for allegedly striking the group's camps. Both the Russian military and the Federal Security Service have denied the allegations.
The next day, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko revealed that he had spent the entire day negotiating with Yevgeny Prigozhin, as agreed upon with Russian President Vladimir Putin. As a result of the talks, the Wagner group leader accepted Lukashenko's proposal to stop the movement of his troops in Russia and take measures to de-escalate the situation.
Putin guaranteed that the Wagner group fighters would have the opportunity to sign contracts with the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, return home, or move to Belarus.
SCO Role in Global Affairs
Commenting on the SCO role in the global affairs, Vladimir Putin stressed that the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is committed to creating a fair and just world order with the central role of the United Nations.
"Our organization is firmly committed to building a truly just and multipolar world order. A world order based on international law, on the universally recognized principles of mutually respectful cooperation of sovereign states with the central coordinating role of the United Nations," Putin told the SCO summit.
The president added that Russia supports the SCO’s draft joint declaration, which "reflects consolidated approaches to international issues." He stressed that SCO will enhance security cooperation.
Putin also said that Russia supports granting SCO membership to Belarus.
On Most Pressing Foreign Policy Issues
More and more geopolitical differences appear in the world, and the global security is deteriorating, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday.
Putin told the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) that it is playing more important role in maintaining stability on the global stage.
“This is especially significant in the current conditions, when geopolitical contradictions are becoming more acute. The degradation of the international security system continues,” Putin told the SCO summit, adding that the SCO member states will increase security cooperation.
The president also said that a hybrid war is ongoing against Russia at the moment.
"And now, in fact, a hybrid war is being waged against us, illegitimate sanctions against Russia are being used on an unprecedented scale," Putin said, adding that “anti-Russia” was being created near the country’s border out of Ukraine for a long time.
On Trade Between Russia and China
Vladimir Putin stressed that more than 80% of trade between Russia and China is carried out in national currencies.
"More than 80% of commercial transactions between Russia and the People's Republic of China are already carried out in rubles and yuan," Putin said at the SCO summit.
Vladimir Putin added that Russia confidently opposes Western sanctions and restrictions and will continue to do so.
