"Jack Lew’s nomination to be ambassador to Israel passed out of committee, 12-9," a reporter of an American news website posted on social media.
While the committee agreed on the urgency of appointing an ambassador to Israel, several senators had expressed strong reservations over Lew’s appointment because of lingering concerns that his implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) while serving as treasury secretary gave Iran access to the US financial system.
Lew was nominated by President Biden last month after the former ambassador, Tom Nides, stepped down in July.
