"The criminal activity of a Central Asian native, who was plotting to carry out a terrorist attack against a Jewish religious institution in Moscow during a mass gathering of citizens, has been thwarted by the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation," the statement said on Thursday.

"On April 10, upon being detained, the terrorist put up armed resistance and was neutralized," the FSB stated. A ready-to-use improvised explosive device, as well as explosives, were found and seized at his place of residence.

The FSB reported that its investigation revealed a foreign national, born in 2002, with a prior criminal conviction for which he was imprisoned in his home country, had made contact with individuals involved in terrorist activities, leading him to embrace the ideology of an international terrorist organization, prohibited in Russia.
