As of Monday, Palestinian casualties totaled 100 as a result of the six-day Israeli military operation.

Over 850 people have been wounded, and Palestinian medical personnel have started running out of medicines.

The mounting human casualties can be explained by the fact that Israeli military aircraft, artillery systems and warships now face more difficult targets. They have stopped hitting isolated facilities and have started attacking such targets as the homes of high-ranking militants and business centers where Palestinian groups lease premises.

The liquidation of a leader of the Islamic Jihad movement caused a sensation on Monday. The high-placed militant was killed, after an air strike hit a multi-storey building where the offices of numerous foreign and Palestinian media outlets are located.

An Israel Defense Forces situation report said dozens of targets, including underground rocket launchers, weapons and ammunition caches and smugglers’ tunnels under the Egyptian border, police stations and Palestinian rocket crews, had been attacked during the day.

Three residents were killed in Kiryat Malakhi, southern Israel, after their home was hit by a Palestinian rocket last Thursday. No more Israelis have been killed to date. Photo: Soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces at a road leading into the Gaza Strip during an air raid warning.

On Monday, the intensity of Palestinian rocket attacks against Israel fell by a third. A concluding Israel Defense Forces situation report notes that, since the start of the operation, over 650 rockets have fallen in Israel. The Iron Dome missile defense system has intercepted over 340 additional rockets, which could have hit densely populated areas and destroyed 90 percent of those rockets, an Israeli army report says.
