Putin, Erdogan Express Satisfaction With Results of Sochi Congress on Syria

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed satisfaction in a phone call with the results of the Syrian national dialogue congress in the Russian southern resort of Sochi, the Kremlin's press service said in a statement Wednesday.

"Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The heads of state expressed their satisfaction with the results of the Syrian national dialogue congress held on January 30 in Sochi," the statement said.

The leaders stressed the importance of implementing the reached agreements, aimed at effective promotion of the Syrian political settlement process on the basis of UN Security Council Resolution 2254.

Putin and Erdogan also discussed Russia-Turkey coordination to ensure stable operation of de-escalation zones in Syria, as well as interaction in the Astana format.

The Sochi All-Syrian Peace Congress was organized by Russia, Iran and Turkey with the support of the UN. It was held in Russia's resort city of Sochi in an attempt to accelerate the peace process in Syria.
